The detail in this vintage embroidered jacket panel from the Hmong hill tribe people of northern Laos is exceptional. While there is some fading of the silk and cotton threads, the overall conditions is excellent. It is most likely from the second half of the 20th century.

The Hmong are a colorful hill tribe people found living throughout Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Burma and Yunnan. The embroidery skills of Hmong women are well known and respected throughout the region and by textile collectors in the west. The Four Seasons Resort in Chiang Mai has a similar piece framed and on display.
