Vintage Silk Wall Hanging / Runner STL02


From Sam Neau, this wonderful traditional silk textile is 30-40 years old. Hand woven on a loom over several weeks with single-pointed concentration, it demonstrates the remarkable art form of silk weaving in Laos. This silk could be used as a wall hanging or a table / bed runner.

This piece is predominantly in black with complex ancient motifs in gold, green, red and blue adorning the ends. The silk is finished in fine knotted tassels.

The condition of this silk textile is excellent, and is free of stains, holes or excessive wear. Sam Neua, in the remote northern province of Houaphan, is the original home of silk weaving in Laos. Sam Neua weavers are renowned for their mastery and creativity, taking silk weaving to a level where it is considered an art form.
