Vintage Silk Textile Naga Motif STL15

This beautiful vintage hand woven silk and cotton textile is from Laos where the tradition of silk weaving is centuries old – a skill passed from mother to daughter. It is from Xiang Khouang, north-eastern Laos, and is about 70 years old. The Naga motif was hand woven on a wooden loom and is an important symbol in Lao Buddhism. It represents the divine life giving force. The maker’s name is also woven into the piece.

Out of stock

There is some loosening of the silk threads that comprise the motif, consistent with age, and the colors are pleasantly faded, but generally it is in very good condition. This piece has already been dry-cleaned.
