Rare Vintage Silk Textile STL14


This rare vintage hand woven silk and cotton textile is from Laos where the tradition of silk weaving is centuries old, a skill passed from one generation to the next. It is from Xiang Khouang, north-eastern Laos, and is about 80 years old. The elephant motifs were hand woven on a wooden loom and symbolize strength and wisdom in Laotian culture. This piece would look wonderful framed or could be used as a sofa throw.

There is a small section with loose threads about an inch wide on one side that has been repaired. The overall condition for a 3rd generation textile is excellent. These vintage silk shawls rarely become available nowadays.
