This remarkable silk was woven on a traditional wooden loom using the finest silk, predominantly in ruby, midnight blue, copper and gold. Minor colors are pink and orange. A rich and complex series of beautifully executed motifs are woven throughout the piece. The pattern is referred to as Tai Pan and motifs used include temple roofs and the Naga, an ancient symbol in Southeast Asian culture.
The degree of skill required to create a silk textile of such consistent quality and refinement can’t be overstated. This piece took nearly two months to complete. It could be used as a runner or wall hanging.
