Made from teak imported from Burma, this antique spice box has been professionally restored. It is from Chettinad, in Tamil Nadu, India, a historically important region known for its former prosperity and 18thC mansions decked out in marble from Italy, teak from Burma, mirrors from Belgium, and high quality furnishings. Boxes of this kind were among these furnishings.
