19thC Burmese Bronze Temple Gong EUO113

Made from hand hammered bronze, this small antique temple gong is from Inle Lake, Burma. It was once used at a Buddhist temple to announce special days of the Buddhist calendar and call monks to chant Pali sutras. It possesses a handsome patina and is in excellent condition with no dents, cracks or holes.

When struck moderately with the old soft mallet included, the gong emits a high subtle note. Genuine antique bronze temple gongs are exceedingly difficult to locate nowadays while reproduction gongs are common. The gong has been hung from a quality custom built stand made of wood and metal with a velvet undersurface. A certificate of authenticity will be provided with this artifact.
