19thC Khmer Brass Lime Box EUO89

This antique decorated brass container was used for keeping slaked lime which was added to betel nut and spices, then chewed, providing a mild intoxication. This was a popular habit throughout much of SE Asia and remains so today in many places.

Availability: In stock

The container is from Prey Veng and is decorated on the upper surface with a floral motif. The lid and base fit together snugly. There is expected wear at the rim of the box as illustrated in the photos.
