Mughal painting emerged from the tradition of miniature painting in Persia during the 16th century, with subsequent Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain influences. The painting was created using opaque watercolors and the generous application of 24k gold leaf. The paint was applied with a squirrel hair brush on antique paper featuring Hindi script.
