Standing Buddhist Monk Burmese Wood Carving ABA48

From Mandalay, Burma, this statue of a monk was sculpted from teak wood. The barefoot monk has a peaceful countenance and stands on a lotus pedestal holding an alms bowl, with robes falling naturally from the shoulders.

Out of stock

The statue depicts a Buddhist monk from the first Sangha some 2500 years ago just as it does a monk in Southeast Asia today. The original paint has worn away in places and now has an attractive, faded patina. This sculpture is in good condition with no repairs and only minimal natural wear. While there is a roughness to the under-surface of the base the statue still stands straight.
