Standing Bronze Buddha Statue Thailand ABA19

This bronze sculpture of the Buddha reflects the style of Buddha images that emerged in 14th century Sukhothai. During this period the influence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka introduced several representations of the Buddha including walking, standing and reclining postures.

Images from this period are noted for the serene and compassionate expression on the face of the Buddha, as well as the graceful, contoured lines of the body. The flame-like projection arising from the top of the head symbolizes the Buddha’s spiritual intensity. This image is exceptionally detailed and well cast with pleasing form and proportion and a rich patina.
