This antique silver hairpin from Laos is styled in a traditional Hmong design consisting of two swirls and a notched stem. The Hmong are a hill tribe people of Laos known for their love of silver and in the past, the skills of their silversmiths.

This antique Hmong silver hairpin is elegantly fashioned from solid high content silver and is in excellent condition.

In former times, the cultivation of opium poppies in their mountain home provided the income to purchase large quantities of silver to fashion into ornaments. Laos, along with Burma and Thailand made up the infamous Golden Triangle.
