Antique Hmong Silver Torque ETJ179

$895.00

Elegantly fashioned from solid cast high grade silver, this antique tribal neck band or torque was made by the Hmong hill tribe people of Laos. At 127 grams or 4.5 oz it is a substantial piece. The Hmong were well known for their love of silver and the impressive skills of their silversmiths.

Availability: In stock

The Hmong can no longer rely on the cultivation of opium poppies to finance their love of silver ornamentation and we’ve been told that highly skilled Hmong silversmiths are a thing of the past. The vast majority of antique Hmong silver has already been traded for cash in the cities. Recently made Hmong jewelry is often composed of inferior alloys or aluminum or sometimes silver plating over tin.
